Student Spotlight: Hennessy Locsin
Location: Kalmar, Sweden
Where did you go abroad, and when did you go?
“I went to Kalmar, Sweden in the summer of 2019. I spent 6 weeks there, in addition to 2 weeks traveling to get there/stopping along the way and 2 weeks on the back end exploring other countries.
I chose Sweden because it hit the sweet spot of 1. cost (within my budget), 2. weather (similar to the weather in the Midwest, depending on season), 3. credits (fun classes that moved me toward my graduation), and 4. language (enough English speaking citizens to get me by if I was struggling)”.
Why did you go abroad?
“I figured then was as good of a time as any. When do these opportunities come around otherwise. It fit into my 3.5-year plan, I got to go with my best friend, try new food, see new locations, learn a new language and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.”
What advice do you have to give to anyone thinking about going abroad?
“You will not regret it. It'll be something extra interesting to put on your resume and gives you tons of soft skills.”
What is your favorite memory from your experience?
“Making new friends from 50 different countries and swimming in the Baltic Sea.”
