Where did you go abroad and when did you go?
“Hi! I’m Francis Samuel and in the summer of 2019 I went to Aix en Provence, France to go on one last big adventure before I graduated.”
What advice do you have to give to anyone who is thinking about going abroad?
“Here are 10 things I wish I heard before placing out!
1. Don’t take naps! Your housing should be for sleeping and showering so get out and see stuff! You can always nap at home but you can’t always be in a foreign country.
2. Make a schedule! If you’re lazy at home, hoping on a plane isn’t going to change that.
3. Put your money more towards experiences and less towards souvenirs. T-shirts and kitchen magnets don’t last as long as memories.
4. Make friends with your professors, they have the best insight on what to do and see.
5. Traveling is expensive. Eat your instant ramen now so you can ball out later.
6. Don’t let bad weather keep you inside.
7. Take tons of pictures and keep a journal (or a video diary)! You’d be surprised at all the stuff you will forget.
8. Guided tours SLAP.
9. Make friends from other universities. #1 in homesickness prevention
10. Put your crocs in adventure mode and keep’em there.”
